I established Mauriteft Consulting Ltd in November 2020 to help advanced manufacturer SMEs to access or supply more in the Defence supply chain.
In my 20+ year career, I’ve worked for small, privately owned manufacturers and spent 15 years at the multinational Caterpillar (the last 8 as MD of Caterpillar Defence UK).
And over the years I’ve learned:
It’s so much more than manufacturing…
My old factory manager at Caterpillar used to tell a story about watching battle and tank demonstrations on Salisbury Plain. It was a major exercise. An attack simulation with more than 100 troops.
Afterwards he got to speak to the soldiers taking part, notably one 18-year-old tank driver.
It was the tank driver’s job to get to point B at a certain time.
The driver said, ‘when we hear the sound of your V engine coming over the hill, we know that we’re going home safely.’
That story always hit home.

Leading the company from a £3.4M loss in 2014 to £4.8M proft in 2018
Securing multi-million-pound funding for product investment and improvements including £6 million for CV12 for Horsepower Density Improvements from 1200hp to 1500hp from 2016 through to 2020
Ensuring my (excellent) team continued to supply our customers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the only Caterpillar UK site not to shutdown
Engaging with International Trade ministers to get approval for an export license application “stuck” within government
Generating annual savings of more than £376k by outsourcing and removing high risk, dangerous and costly wash processes
